Billing  & Insurance

I don't take insurance directly but I can offer a receipt, so depending on your plan you might get a chunk of my fee back. For example, if you have out-of-network benefits that reimburse 80 percent of my $200 fee then your cost will only be $40 per session. Def check with your insurance directly!

Questions to Ask Your Insurance Company

(New York Residents)

Before starting therapy, it’s helpful to understand your out-of-network (OON) benefits. You can use this list when you call your insurance company to learn how reimbursement works for therapy sessions.

General Coverage

• Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?

• Do my out-of-network benefits apply to telehealth sessions?

• Do I need to meet a deductible before out-of-network benefits kick in?

• What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much of it have I met this year?

• After I meet my deductible, what percentage of the session fee is reimbursed?

Payment & Reimbursement Details

• What is the 'allowed amount' or 'usual and customary rate' (UCR) for CPT code 90834 (a

45-minute therapy session) in my ZIP code?

• Do I need to submit a claim form myself, or can my provider submit a superbill for me?

• How do I submit claims for out-of-network services (online, by mail, or through an app)?

• How long does it take to receive reimbursement once a claim is submitted?

• Is there a limit to the number of sessions covered per year?

Mental Health-Specific

• Are there any pre-authorization or pre-certification requirements for therapy?

• Are there any exclusions or special criteria for anxiety, OCD, or panic disorder treatment?

• Is there a separate deductible for mental health or behavioral health?

Timing & Plan Year

• When does my plan year reset? (Deductibles usually reset annually.)

• What is my out-of-pocket maximum for out-of-network services?

Extra Tip: If they confirm coverage, ask: 'Can you give me the reference number for this call?' This helps if you need to appeal a denied claim later.

Have your insurance card handy when you call. Write down the representative’s name, the date, and the call reference number for your records.
